In order to strengthen the role of women as promoters of sustainable development in the rural areas of Jordan, a training in food security, nutrition and food safety was carried out in the village of Igneyah (Zarqa governorate, north of Jordan) last month.
Various topics were discussed in trainer-trainees lesson settings. Additionally, a written manual including these topics was given to each of the beneficiaries. The training took place in the Municipality building of Igneyah, which fit the needs of the most conservative female beneficiaries, as the building is in the centre of the village, near the area where the majority of them live. The training sessions attracted more and more participants every day, proving that beneficiaries spread the word after the first day. Observing the ladies during the training, their great interest in the topic and engagement in the practical sections was noticable. For instance, they cooked some vegetable and made juice from the products coming directly from their households (as can be seen in the pictures). The interactions between the trainers and trainees was also very active. Participants were very open to give feedback and it emerged that they are very interested in acquiring new skills, as they look forward to receiving more trainings.
Such training was developed within the strategy of the Water Convenio 2010-2014, carried out in Jordan by FPSC together with the local partner JOHUD and funded by AECID.
