In the framework of the Food Summit, the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP) – and the Rome Forum of Catholic Inspired NGOs, of which Social Promotion is a member, organised the webinar “The role of women in promoting integral human development” on 17 May 2021.
This was the first of the webinars “Food For Life, Food Justice, Food For All”, held during the month of May in preparation and to show the Holy See’s perspective on women, finance, human rights and innovation, recognised as levers of change by the UN Food Systems Summit, which will take place in July in New York.
Specifically, the seminar aimed to stimulate discussion and share experiences and knowledge on the role of women in home care (based on the Social Doctrine of the Church, especially in the light of the encyclical Laudato Si’), as well as in the promotion of integral human development and resilient food systems.
Permanent representatives and members of diplomatic missions to FAO, IFAD, WFP and the Holy See; international civil servants; representatives of Catholic-inspired NGOs, civil society and academia; and representatives of farmers and rural women took part in a series of workshops on “Food and Development: Women and Rural Contexts”, “Food and Peace: Women and Political and International Contexts” and “Food and Family: Women and Socio-economic Contexts”.
