As part of the journey made by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ybáñez, to Jordan on 13 and 14 September, a visit to the project of protection and inclusive humanitarian assistance to 7,760 Syrian refugees and more vulnerable Jordanian population in Madaba Governorate was included, the FPSC develops it in consortium with RESCATE, APS and MPDL and AECID subsidizes.
During the visit, along with the Secretary of State, the Ambassador of Spain in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Santiago Cabana, the Coordinator of the OTC, Vicente Ortega, as well as representatives of NGOs and local partners involved in the project were present. The FPSC was represented by the Director of Humanitarian Aid, Enric Roig, and the Chief of Mission in Jordan, Maria Lopez de Haro.
To learn how we work through this project, to meet the needs of especially vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian refugee population, and specifically the disabled, they first visited the clinic where APS serves women victims of gender violence, and then, the centre in the Palestinian refugee camp in Madaba in which MPDL, RESCATE and FPSC offer their services.
MPDL has physical therapists, speech therapists and other professionals working for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities, following the model that the FPSC launched in his clinic in Za’atari, where it primarily serves children with cerebral palsy. In the same center, RESCATE has created a safe space that offers psychosocial support for children victims of war.
Through the equipment and start up of these centres of physical and psychosocial support, the distribution of technical aids and therapeutic, physical and occupational support among vulnerable populations, and access to protection services on gender violence and sexual and reproductive health, we want to help alleviate some of the shortages caused by the lack of resources of neighbouring countries, such as Jordan, which hosts people fleeing the armed conflict in Syria.
