Last June 16 the inclusive interagency event “Kullona” took place in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, in the same week as the World Refugee Day (June 20).

The aim is to organize this interagency event every three months, in order to promote the inclusion of the elderly and of people with disabilities in the leisure-time activities of the camp.

For the occasion, the FPSC collaborated with different organizations: Handicap International, NHF, Mercy Corps, IRD, Holy Land, IMC, IOM, FCA, Questscope, War Child, UNHCR and the Syrian Band for Artistic Future (conceived and coordinated by the Age Disability Task Force, Zaatari Camp).

This time, after the success of the first event in March, it was organized in two venues in order to increase the number of people who could participate in and enjoy the event. As for the FPSC, it was responsible for organizing activities for young people with disabilities in the District 2. Thanks to this action, they told the FPSC their favourite activities, and the difficulties they find to be part of them.

Among the recreational activities, the FPSC organized a sports event: a basketball game. The idea was to play a basketball game to promote the inclusion of all players, regardless of the score. The team, which was brought together and trained a week before, included participants from Mercy Corps, Questscope and Warchild, as well as five boys in their wheelchairs.

The game enjoyed a great expectation, and it could be seen the complicity among the players and the enthusiasm put into the activity. On the other hand, a henna and jewelry workshop was organized for women, encouraging all of them present to join in. The result was the creation of beautiful designs.

Coordination between NGOs is vital to alleviate the adverse effects of the humanitarian crisis in the region, improving the quality of Syrian refugees, encouraging interaction between the Syrian and Jordanian communities, and above all improving the inclusion of the most vulnerable refugees.

Therefore, in June it has started a consortium promoted by the AECID between Spanish NGOs in the field and civil society organizations in Jordan. Within this consortium, each group of NGOs carried out a specific joint activity, for example, the FPSC with MPDL, the Community Development Committee and the Al-Hussain Society Jordan Centre for Training and Inclusion carried out improvements in the accessibility to the protection services for the disabled, so that they can access to medical care.
