On Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 12 to 7 o’clock the “Day of Solidarity” with developing countries was held at the Municipal Center Sphere, organized by the City Council of Cooperation of Alcobendas.
Participating in it were the 14 NGOs that have received funding from the City of Alcobendas in 2012: United Fire fighters without Borders, Spanish Red Cross, Foundation Energy Without Borders, Honey suckle Foundation; Madrid Foundation, Peace and Solidarity Paul Horstmann Foundation , Agua de Coco Foundation, Fundación Vicente Ferrer, Manos Unidas, Global Humanitarian Association, Father Arrupe Foundation, Triangle Foundation, and the Foundation for the Social Promotion of Culture, to present projects that are underway. Local NGOs from Alcobendas also participated, unveiling their work in development cooperation to the people of Madrid.
In a relaxed atmosphere, with several activities organized for children, cooperation projects were related to with the collaborations of the City of Alcobendas such as storytelling, awards of children’s painting competition, and various workshops for all family, attending the Conference met through photo exhibitions and video screenings the work of the participating organizations. It was also a good time for NGOs to share experiences and reflection solidarity and international cooperation.
In times of crisis, when the meaning of development cooperation isquestioned , it is even more important to raise awareness of the needs of the most disadvantaged and to make visible the work that is being done to try to alleviate them.
The FPSC introduced draft “Expanding nutrition services and education in the Muketuri Maternity Center, North Shoa, Ethiopia”, aimed at improving food security in this region. The project completion date is scheduled for March 31, then the center will have an additional classroom to accommodate 50 new children 6 years of age and prepare them for primary school, them others of these children will have received nutrition education and agricultural techniques to get proper nutrition, and their families have access to water through the construction of new wells for domestic use and irrigation of orchards.
