The visit took place within the agreed framework to improve water resources in the Palestinian and Jordan Territories.
A Palestinian-Jordan delegation was formed by ten members of the PARC organizations (Palestinian territories) and the JOHUD (Jordan). The members visited Spain as an activity of the Convention “Improving the management of water resources in the agricultural sector to ensure food security in Jordan and Palestinian territories.
Dr. Abdellatif Muhammad, the vice director of PARC and the leader of the Palestinian delegation along with Basem Shamoun, the project manager of JOHUD and the leader of the Jordanian delegation participated on the 8th of April in the round table entitled: “Coping with water scarcity in the Palestinian and Jordan territories: the use of non-conventional water sources in agriculture”.
Afterwards, the leaders of the delegation visited the Centre for New Water Technologies (CENTA) in Carrión where they were informed about the developed and applied technologies in the field of water reuse.
Within the two-day stay in Spain the delegation also visited the Community Irrigation Sector B-XII of the Lower Guadalquivir in Lebrija (Sevilla).
They were welcomed by Benito Bellido Perez, the manager of the Community Irrigation Sector, who informed the Delegation on the transmission and distribution networks of water irrigation and drainage.
The manager gave also a tour in the irrigation systems sector and the drainage system sector, showing the surface and the underground of the drainage system.
Thereafter, the Delegation visited “Las Marismas” Cooperative, which is located in the same irrigation area. Mr Perez provided information on the legal and institutional framework of the irrigators association and the “Las Marismas” Cooperative.
