More than 80 young people participate this week in two summer camps organized by the Social Promotion Foundation and promoted by youth associations in the cities of Porto and Strasbourg.

Leadership Bootcamp, a practical leadership training in the framework of the European Union and the United Nations, is taking place in the city of Strasbourg.

The young adolescents of the Roca, Gara and Naira youth associations have already participated in the Role Play Game of the European Parliament where they have become MEPs for a day in fictitious political groups and have visited the Council of Europe.

During these days they will also visit the Struthof-Natzweiler concentration camp, the United Nations Palace and CERN – the largest particle physics research laboratory in the world – these two last located in the city of Geneva.

On the other hand, in the city of Porto, a group of volunteers from the Torrelaguna, Abedul, Albufera and Anchara youth associations is participating in a volunteer program with the Food Bank of Porto, the Re-food association –which rescues food that is It is in perfect condition and distributes it to the most in need- and with a residence for the elderly and with a social centre for children in social exclusion.

Against food waste and loneliness of the elderly

In both summer camps, the young women will participate in the activity ‘Take action to be part of the change’ designed by Youth Mun Madrid.

During these days, adolescents will have to provide solutions on the challenges ‘How to reduce food waste by half by 2030’, ‘How to promote greater participation of young people in society’ and ‘How to combat the isolation and loneliness of children greater.’

Their ideas will be shared through the empodera.org platform and will be put to the public vote until the 15th of August.
