Last April 24th the IV PDO La Rioja Stars Fair, organized by an NGO from the Spanish province La Rioja, Kaipacha Inti, and in which fourteen Spanish cellars participated. The event took place in the Círculo Logroñes, established in the capital of the province, and each year it is organized to raise funds for a good cause. This year the cause was the Spanish School Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Jerusalem, a project supported by the FPSC since 2003.
In the Fair, fourteen Spanish cellars were gathered in the same place and towards the same good end: Abel Mendoza’s cellar, Artadi, Barón de Ley, Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez, Finca Allende, Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta S.A., Marqués de Riscal, Pujanza, Remírez de Ganuza, Roda, Sierra Cantabria, Valenciso andViñedos del Contino. People who wished to collaborate, after paying 25 euros they could taste the “star” qualified wines of the Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) La Rioja that participated with two or three wine references each.
FPSC provided photografic material so the participants could take a look at the Spanish School Nuestra Señora del Pilar, which is placed in the centre of Jerusalem and where religious women of the Missionaries Hijas del Calvario take care of 207 girls with scarce resources. FPSC has supported this school for years beyond social, political and economic difficulties, fostering the importance role of the literacy and education and promoting intercultural cohabitation among Palestine orphan girls regardless of their religion: Christian, Jewish or Muslim.
