Improving the living conditions of the population in the southern province of Sofala by access to water and sanitation
The region of Sofala is one of the poorest in Mozambique as a result of sixteen years of civil war (1976-1992) and natural disasters (floods, hurricanes and droughts) that has suffered.
In this context, it was necessary to establish measures to achieve sustainable development, and access to safe water and adequate sanitation are configured as necessary to achieve this requirement.
Therefore, through this project we aimed to improve the coverage of the basic needs of the population in Estaquinha and Barada, creating systems of access to water and sanitation, and raising awareness on good hygiene and sanitation practices.
Specifically, it was contemplated carrying out the following activities:
- Excavation of wells in Estaquinha and Barada.
- Rehabilitation of latrines, septic tanks and toilets in schools and health centers in Estaquinha and Barada.
- Training students on the proper use of the facilities and the relationship between health and hygiene.
