Improvement the lives of four rural communities in the department of Santa Cruz through the provision of potable water
The project aimed to contribute to the consolidation of a fundamental right of people, access to drinking water in four rural communities in the department of Santa Cruz, in the municipalities of Cabezas, Cotoca and Okinawa I.
Construction of a reinforced concrete elevated tank was planned for this (with capacity for 12,000 or 20,000 litres, according to the population of the community), a network of water distribution and installation of household water taps in all homes in the community. This benefited 3,938 people, from 4 communities, which were composed overwhelmingly of indigenous natives.
Water cooperatives were also created in each community to self-manage water systems and training was offered in this type of management, as well as in health and hygiene habits.
