Queen Sofía handed out last Thursday, 23rd of May, the Social Prizes of the Mapfre Foundation.
Among those present were the ombudsman Soledad Becerril and the Minister of the Interior, Jorge Fernandez Diaz.
In the category of “the Best Solidarity Action” the prize has been awarded to the Foundation for Integral Development (FUDI) of Guatemala, a member of the “NGO Network for Development of Latin American Countries” (REDI) which is operating in the rural areas of Chimaltenango and Solola. FUDI offers a model of vocational training based on an innovative methodology that promotes the role of the beneficiaries, mostly of the indigenous kakchiquel women.
Queen Sofía awarded the price to Ms Gloria Buc, who gave a speech in Kakchiquel and Castilian.
In the other categories, the awarded projects were the environmental management project in Puerto Rico, a Brazilian campaign set up to prevent that children are victims of traffic accidents and the Trauma Specialist Pedro Guillen.
During the ceremony Ms. Gloria Buc and Ms. Flor de Maria Coronado were accompanied by Ms. Monica Bohigues, the General Secretary of the FPSC and Ms.Teresa Maria Pérez Páyan. the General Secretary of the REDI network.
The FPSC promoted the initiation and development of the NGO Network for the Development of the Latin American Countries.
