Last March 25th the “Inter-agency event” took place in the refugee camp of Za’atari. It was organized by the FPSC in Jordan together with the cluster of Age&Disability of Za’atari.
The event lasted all day long in District 2, inside the facilities of the IRD (International Relief & Development), an American NGO in partnership with UNHCR. It was created as a response to the efforts of different international NGOs that work in the camp in order to include people with disabilities in the common activities.
It is estimated that 30% of the refugees in Za’atari suffer some kind of disability. Because of the physical composition of the camp, and the nature of the extracurricular activities, these people are usually dropped out of them.
For this reason, and in order to work for a more inclusive future, the event counted on leisure activities for children, teenagers, adults and seniors. There were diverse discussion groups in which they gave answers to the following questions: Which common activities would you like to be part of? Which difficulties are stopping you from going? Are there other activities you would like to organize in your district? The final target was to collect valid and real information to work on through the different clusters in the refugee camp.
