In the conference, Gerard Poch reflected on the challenges that covid-19 poses for a country like Ethiopia, and how this situation affects international development cooperation.

It was also broadcast online by the University of Lérida.

The Head of Mission of Social Promotion in Ethiopia made a brief introduction about the African continent, focusing then on the country of Ethiopia, where he works, describing the great challenges faced by the country, with serious problems such as the locust plague that devastates large agricultural areas, and which suffers a permanent situation of conflict in addition to a pandemic context.

He then spoke about the Social Promotion work carried out in the framework of its agreement financed by AECID in consortium with the NGO Rescate and two local partners ECC-SDCOH (Ethiopian Catholic Church – Social Development and Cooperation Office of Harar) and Havoyoco, and aims to contribute to poverty reduction in 5 Woredas in the Fafan Zone of the Somali Region in Ethiopia, and in a total of 17 kebeles, by strengthening rights holders’ access to resilient and sustainable livelihoods and reducing gender inequalities.

The presentation was disseminated in some regional media: the AnoiaDiari regional newspaper and on the website of AUGA (Aula d’Extensió Universitària per a la Gent Gran de l’Anoia)
