In order to facilitate access to education and professional training in rural communities, the NGO “Iniciativas de Educación Superior y Complementaria, Inc” (INDESCO) provided the communities of Hatillo and Los Higos in the Municipal District of Buenavista in Jarabacoa, two multipurpose rooms for educational and training activities, as well as cultural and civic seminars.

It is intentioned to prevent displacement, which is the main obstacle in rural populations to receive adequate training to therefore improve their standards of living and socioeconomic status of their families.

The construction and furnishing of the rooms was made possible thanks to the generous donations of: Junta de Castilla y Leon, the Foundation for the Social Promotion of Culture (FPSC), the Cooperation Agreement with the Buenavista Municipal District Trustee, Mr. Joselyn Díaz,  and the support of  both communities, Hatillo and Los Higos.

Meeting the objectives stated in June 2012, both communities can now use their classrooms and since September of this year, they have begun training classes for adults and youth, as was being done in Piedra Blanca of El Saldo, preventing the displacement of rural communities to urban areas.
