Currently, the Foundation is developing a project to promote decent work, especially in the tourism sector, key to the country’s economy, for vulnerable groups in Upper Egypt, together with our local partner Association of Upper Egypt for Education and Development (AUEED) and with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

For this, the intervention offers training and technical support, which allows inclusive and sustainable economic growth and full, productive and decent employment.

In February, this business training took place in Luxor, and during its development, there was also the visit, on the 23rd, of two AECID representatives: María Tarancón, gender manager, and Paula Nasarre, project assistant, who positively valued the training and were able to interact with the participants, noting the high presence of women and girls.

Specifically, from February 20 to 24, a second phase of the Egyptian and International Desserts Pastry Workshop was held, again taught by the trainer certified by the Abu Korkas Hospitality Training Center.

This workshop, requested by the students themselves, was a higher level to complement the knowledge acquired last January. And it is that, thanks to this training, the 4 participants are strengthening their businesses and have already begun to sell their products online and in their local community.

In addition, that day, all the students received a certificate of the course that was delivered by the AECID representatives, who were entertained, preparing a delicious Catalan cream.

Also, from February 21 to 25, 7 people participated in the sewing training planned and directed by a trainer from the national fashion design center (government institute), to learn how to draw patterns for pants and other clothing according to the different standard sizes and to sew and make the designs on fabric. By the end of the training, they had all produced several new models and their high degree of satisfaction has resulted in a request for a new workshop to make other garments, such as jackets and tops.

Finally, on February 22 and 23, 29 people received training in digital marketing, which is the fifth round of the eight that the project contemplates, and which, as on previous occasions, focused on its main techniques and best practices.

Based on the lessons learned, and at the request of the participants themselves, both the local partner and the expert agreed to change the format of the training to an intensive 1-day workshop.
