A seminar on wastewater treatment was held on 21 December in Tulkarem, West Bank. This seminar is part of the project “Improving Palestinian farmers’ access to treated water by improving human resources in the West Bank water plants” which FPSC is implementing in Palestinian Territories with the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) and support from the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID). Throughout the seminar, local experts have conducted sessions related to water treatment, from different approaches, including the legal framework for the approval of waste plants, presented by the expert Hiba Mansouri.

The project is in its final phase, reinforcing the training component for professionals employed in the water sector. This training is aimed at obtaining a specific certification for national application that allows to adequately performing the work in water treatment plants. The training is being developed in different courses of one week each in the city of Salt, in Jordan, by a team of experts from the ACWUA Arab Countries Water Utilities Association.

Access to water and sanitation is a matter of prime concern in the Palestinian Territories, a right over which neither the population (right holders) nor the responsible institutions (holders of obligations) have a total control capacity due to occupation Israeli. This fact is compounded by the lack of preparation of the personnel working in the sector to properly take care of the necessary works in the water treatment plants and their connection with the homes. For this reason, one of the components of the project being implemented is the training of technicians so that they can adequately carry out the water-related needs of the West Bank families.
