As part of the day, particular aspects of the Strategic Plan for Equal Opportunities 2008-2011 were addressed.
This event was attended by various associations of young women and in it an analysis was performed of different forms of active participation in society, through activities in the field of volunteering.
A day of awareness and training of volunteers was organized by the Foundation for the Social Promotion of Culture, sponsored by the Institute for Women.
On behalf of the FPSC attended María Abellanas, Head of Volunteerism of the FPSC, Jaime Armenteros of the Projects Department and Chief of Mission in Vietnam, who made a presentation on the ecotourism project developed by the FPSC in the Ngoc Son Ngo Luong nature reserve (Vietnam) and José Luis Zatarain, Director of Communication and Volunteering..
The importance of the event was highlighted for the Foundation to consider as one of its core institutional values the indisputable priority and prominence of Women, which translates into the objective of the promotion of women in all sectors and activities to increase social participation and encourage their access to decision-making.
Representatives of eleven young women’s associations working with the Foundation presented their volunteer projects and, after deliberation, proceeded to the election and awards granted by the FPSC to best volunteer initiatives developed during the course.
First prize was awarded to the Traina association for their volunteer project in a labor camp in Kenya, rewarding the ability and initiative of these young people, some of them who are studying to be a teacher, to detecting shortcomings in a different field, as the use of physical punishment by local faculty, and courage in order to share best practices and standards with them
The second prize went to Peñalara Association for their “Urban Angels” project of hosting, caring and supporting the mentally handicapped.
The third prize was awarded to El Vado for their “Nature Class” project for its innovation and the promotion of values of commitment to the respect for Nature and the Environment.
